One of my favorite things to do outside of Fuqua was eating at the great restaurants around town with my roommate. At first, I started with Chinese restaurants like Happy China and then became more adventurous with some of the American ones like Nana’s and Nanataco.
The location of Duke Kunshan is good because it’s so close to Shanghai. This provides many opportunities for entertainment and convenient transportation to other interesting places in East Asia. Though I’m from China, my home is a long way from campus. Luckily we had a Kunshan native in the class.
During my undergrad studies, there was often more than 100 people in a classroom, and I’d hardly talk to my classmates. At Duke, the classroom dynamic is much more intimate. It’s a real benefit to know everyone’s name and to give and receive individual attention. There is a lot of encouragement and support within the group.
Mixing with students from other programs is also a great way to build your network. Fuqua Friday is a perfect example of a relaxed environment for getting to know fellow students on another level.
I enjoyed Introduction to Financial Accounting with Professor Xu Jiang during our first term in Durham. It was a pretty intense schedule with 12 cases that we studied in only 2.5 weeks. However, Prof. Jiang explained complex topics in great detail without making them confusing, by using real life examples to help us understand and better facilitate the learning process.
