5 Tips for Maximizing Your Time at Fuqua

Use the Career Management Center—The career coaches are very good at what they do, and they want to help you. Meet with them as much as you can, regardless of your career interests.
Join Clubs— One of the best ways to meet new people across all programs is to join one of the many student-run clubs. The choices range from professional clubs like the finance club to more hobby-centric clubs like the tennis club.
Network— Talk to everyone; Fuqua’s alumni, MBA students, professors, and your classmates are all impressive. You share a bond in being a part of the Fuqua family, and talking to them allows you to learn from their experiences.
Enjoy yourself— It’s easy to get caught up in academic performance, the competitive nature of business school, or your job search. Don’t forget to enjoy yourself and the people around you—school is fun, and you’ll miss it once you’re working.
Meet with your team early— Group assignments take time, and, in some cases, you and your teammates may have slightly different answers to the same question based on your thought processes. Working through these differences to get one collaborative answer takes time. You don’t want to be up all night doing this!

My Favorite Fuqua Activity

I really enjoy my work as an admissions ambassador. I enjoy talking to prospective students about my experience at Fuqua and answering questions they may have about the process. I understand that choosing a graduate school is a stressful and nerve-wracking process—I remember going through it myself. Anything I can do to help allay those anxieties, I consider time well spent.

Why I Chose Fuqua

My undergraduate studies helped me build strong qualitative skills, however, I wanted to further develop my quantitative skill set. My work as an intern on political campaigns reinforced my previously held notion that fundamental business knowledge is applicable across all industries, which led me to want to pursue an MMS degree. Choosing Fuqua was ultimately an easy choice—I am excited about adding a high-level business background from a prestigious program to my pedigree.

Before MMS

I interned for Gretchen Driskell’s congressional campaign in Michigan’s seventh district as a field intern and for Chief Justice of Michigan, Bridget McCormack’s supreme court re-election campaign as a finance intern.

After MMS

I plan to work in financial services in a role that exposes me to a wide variety of problems across different areas. As a young professional, learning different ways to think about a diverse set of problems will help me build agile problem-solving skills that I can leverage throughout my career regardless of industry.
