Why I Chose Fuqua

The opportunity to experience two diverse economies and the accelerated duration of the program were the two major factors in my decision. Having had work experience after undergrad, I did not want my master’s degree to take too long but still wanted something that would equip me with the relevant business tools to start my own venture or have success in a dynamic role in an organization.

5 Tips for Maximizing Your Time at Fuqua

Talk to the faculty, the program team, your peers, and students from other programs; tell them what you want to do here and what your plans are. Everyone here wants to see you succeed and people go the extra mile to help you with your goals.
Take part in activities that you’ve never done, explore other cultures, and tell your peers about your culture and beliefs. You will understand why certain people behave the way they do, how you are different from them, and what common points you share.
Express your interests early and find like-minded people. I love entrepreneurship and playing tennis. I found people who had the same interests from both Duke’s undergraduate program and other graduate schools; it is the best feeling to enjoy the things you love doing with people who care about them as much as you do.
Enjoy Fuqua Friday and be a part of each one of them. They are a great way to unwind, have fun, talk to the Fuqua community, and take pride in being part of that community.
Just take it all in. Both within Fuqua and bigger Duke, there is so much going on that it might sometimes feel overwhelming. Just remember why you came here and I promise you with your peers and the program staff being your support system, this will be an unforgettable experience.

My Favorite Professor

Ines Black teaches strategy and is one of my favorite professors at Fuqua because of the content she chose for her course and the way she delivered it. We were expected to read and analyze business cases based on strategy frameworks that she taught us. The cases were very relevant and taught us different ways to approach a problem. They allowed us to be in the shoes of a C-suite executive and actually make decisions.

Before MMS

I worked at PwC for about a year. I knew that to accelerate my growth I not only needed to keep working hard but also have the relevant managerial skills. I now have a much broader understanding of various business issues and can do a more thorough analysis of the problem at hand.

After MMS

I am currently working on a couple of entrepreneurial ideas. If I am able to successfully execute those ideas, I will start working on them full-time. If not, I’ll take the entrepreneurial route via consulting as it will expose me to various industries and strengthen my skills at solving problems.
